A recipe I never thought I’d enjoy…flourless, sugarless muffins!

I never got on-board with the gluten-free trend or even got near a low-carb diet as I really, really like my breads and other baked goods.  However, I came across a recipe that’s the product of trying to omit grains altogether.  The recipe claims to make muffins without flour and sugar – I know what you’re thinking and I did the same, ‘huh?…how is that going to be tasty?’  As the pictures of the final product gave me some interest and I had a banana ripening so fast on the counter without anyone in the house showing interest towards it, I thought I’d give the recipe a try.

“Shake”ing my way to weight loss

I love shaking and I also love “shake”ing.  Before you shake your head (no pun intended), what I mean is: I love shaking it up to a good song to get active and workout; I also love drinking shakes and smoothies.

A lot of people think I’m crazy when I tell them I love Kellog’s All-Bran Buds. No, I’m not being paid by Kellog’s here, but I just want to share my love for this super high fiber cereal.  I give credit to the bran buds for helping me maintain my weight and infact, a bran smoothie was the first thing I had when I came home from the hospital after delivering my daughter.

Kavitha - Is there a difference between the flakes and buds? I have the flakes at home and I eat it with fruits and yogurt but shake sounds good, i’m going to try it out one of these days. Thanks for sharing this!

Saumea - Hi Kavitha, I recall the buds having more fiber content per cup. For eg. for 1/3 cup it had more fiber than other bran cereals. Personally I like that so I don’t have to eat a lot of it. This also compensated for the fact it was a little bit more expensive than the flakes. Also, the texture was easier to sprinkle on yogurt when I had it as a snack. I think it’s just personal preference. You may want to compare the fiber content and other nutrition information on the label. Try shakes with the flakes and let me know how it tastes!

Jordan - I love Bran Buds! There… I said it… I have a serving and a half every morning mixed with muesli and Greek yoghurt. But I also love their taste and texture too. The crunchiness is super satisfying, like eatinglittle balls of carrots or potato chip crumbs. I can’t get enough of them. I also don’t know how I would hit my recommended daily intake without them… And I eat heaps of legumes and fruit… The bran is the only thing I’ve found that can get me up to 40 grams a day.

Saumea - I couldn’t agree with you more Jordan. I love the texture too.

The New Mom Fear

As a new mom, we fear anything and everything.  All new mothers have that fear of whether they’ll be a good mom and whether they’ll be able to fulfill all the needs of their new bundle of joy. My solution for that is, trust your gut!

Manjula - Our biggest discipline problem now is ending co-sleeping, which we made the mistake of allowing a few times after she turned 4, and now can’t seem to end without a battle.

The mystery of scraped pants…

If you are the parent of a school-ager, the quick wear and tear of school clothes is something you battle with regularly…especially, those pants!  My son and friends (as most boys) find a way to scratch off those pant knees in a matter of a few weeks of wear…us mothers just can’t seem to figure out this mystery.  What do they do…walk on knees, crawl around on the playgrounds??  My son’s reply always is “I just play”…no kidding!  Unless you are Johnny Depp, it’s not a good look.

Jody - Is tacky glue a specific type of glue? Would a glue gun work? Thanks for the suggestions!

April 24, 2013 - 12:23 pm

Anushiya - Hi Jody,
Tacky glue is what it says on my bottle as it is shown on one of the pictures. I’m sure you can get the same outcome with all-purpose glue or fabric glue. I haven’t tried the glue gun…I’d love to know if it’d do the job. Hope it turns out well for you. Thanks for your comment.
