Guest Post – Balancing Family and Work

Today’s guest post comes to us from Cindi Percival. Cindi is a mother of two who lives in Ottawa. Today she is sharing with us how she balances family, work and a small business.
Balancing work and family is certainly a skill these days.  As more and more moms return to work after their maternity leave, it certainly has become the norm to juggle many things in life.  As a mom, you want to make sure your children are not neglected and that you can perform well at work and still somewhat have a social life.  In order to do all this, I balance my work, small business and family using modern day tools, such as my Iphone, Google calendar etc…  I make sure i enter all the important dates and events in my Google calendar which is shared with my husband.  This is how we are both aware of upcoming tasks.  Even the smallest to-do item gets input on the calendar, this way we can keep on top of things. Technology has certainly provided a great platform to incorporate all my various hats, so to speak.
Here are 3 helpful techniques I use to manage stress.
1) Taking just 15 or 20 mins in your day to exercise.  Its been proven that exercise relieves stress.  Here’s a website you can refer to…   http://www.webmd.com/balance/stress-management/stress-management-relieving-stress
Thus, if you are stressed you may find that you lose patience easily, become irritable and are in a foul mood.

3) Spending time in prayer and Meditation has also proved to help clear our minds so that we can go about our daily routines at ease.  I find this very helpful, where you can turn off all the to-do lists and tasks in your mind and concentrate just on the simple things in life, like admiring nature by going for a walk, listening to soothing sounds, smelling beautiful scents, having gratitude for all the blessings in your life or watching your child play innocently with their toys.
I find that its also helpful when you have a positive outlook on life. Whatever challenge you are presented, take it as a learning opportunity. This positive mindset will help you focus on the task that needs to get done. Life can be stressful and hectic, but i think we owe it to ourselves and our children to have a healthy lifestyle so that they too can learn to balance life in an efficient way.
